Hands Heart

Terra Cotta, Milk, Paint, Pigment
approximately 3” W
2001

Hands Heart finds its germination in a photo of women protesters  who chained themselves to the White House fence in support of the Equal Rights Amendment bill.  Their hands are raised up and joined together to form the sign of the yoni.  Hands Heart uses this sign and includes a yoni in the center.  The swirling designs at the top of the heart are a common symbol found in many cultures and are reminiscent of breasts, or a maze that leads into the center of our being and out again. The opposite side repeats the hand and yoni motif. Signed replicas of Hands Heart are available in a variety of colors for sale.
